Last Friday, our Gateway Middle School Lions traded their desks for hiking trails and headed to the beautiful Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge for a little fresh air, adventure, and outdoor learning! ☀️🥾

From exploring the trails and spotting wildlife 🦌 to enjoying a picnic lunch surrounded by nature, our students had a WILD time making memories and discovering the beauty right in our own backyard! 🌿❤️

💚 A HUGE THANK YOU to the Friends of the Wichitas for providing the field trip grant that made this adventure possible! Your generosity helped give our students an unforgettable learning experience!

🦬 We also want to give a special shoutout to Aaron Bailey, Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge Park Ranger, for taking the time to speak with our students about the importance of protecting and preserving our beautiful refuge for future generations. 🌎🌱

Thanks to our friends at Open Doors, some of our freshmen had the opportunity to visit the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (USAO) in Chickasha! 🏫✨

We are so excited to celebrate Deanice Shegog as Douglass Learning Center’s September Teacher of the Month! 💙

Deanice serves our secondary LVA students and Gateway Middle School, but anyone in our building will tell you that her impact goes far beyond her own students. She is the person who is always willing to jump in, lend a hand, answer a question, solve a problem, or help wherever she is needed. She is constantly taking care of everyone!

Deanice leads with kindness, patience, and a genuine desire to help both students and staff succeed. We are incredibly thankful for everything she brings to Douglass Learning Center, and we can’t think of anyone more deserving of this recognition. Congratulations, Deanice! 🎉💐
