A big thank you to Derek Nichols, supervisor for Comanche County Eastern District No. 1, and his crew for patching several areas at the Lawton Public Schools Transportation Center on Thursday. Their work on the bus parking lot helps ensure our bus drivers have a smoother and safer ride as they transport thousands of students each day. SHOUTOUT to our very own Patrick Stewart from MacArthur High School!!
At this month's SillFacts meeting, Patrick was recognized for his quick action, professionalism and courage while serving as a lifeguard at LETRA Beach.
Patrick performed the first rescue of the season when a 6-year-old boy drifted into deep water and began to struggle. He immediately recognized the danger, activated the Emergency Action Plan and entered the water to perform a front rescue. Because of his swift response and proper training, the child was safely brought out of the water and returned to his family.
Patrick’s calm response and decisive action prevented a frightening situation from becoming a tragedy. He was presented with Garrison Commander's coin.
